Fried Dough, Often Referred To As Fried Bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all- purpose our,
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk, may need a little more to make the dough smooth Oil for frying, (vegetable or canola oil works well)
  • Cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Steps

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the our, baking powder, salt, and sugar, whisk together.
  • Gradually add milk to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms, you may need to adjust the amount of milk slightly, depending on the humidity and your our.
  • Knead the dough, Turn the dough onto a slightly oured surface, knead gently for about 1-2 minutes until smooth, void overworking the dough
  • Roll out the dough. Divide the dough Into smaller portions (about 4 to 5 pieces). Roll each portion out to about 1/4 inch thick. You can shape them into circles or any other preferred shape.
  • In a deep frying pan or pot heat about 2 inches of oil to 350° you can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping a small piece of dough in the oil, it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
  • Let an adult place your dough in the hot oil. Fry for about 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side or until golden Brown, don’t overcrowd the pan, Fry in batches.
